“Change is hard.”

That might be the absolute worst way to start a conversation with you when you want to take charge of your life, grow your idea into a clear and compelling vision, and make it happen. It’s probably the last thing you want to hear when you have a desire to make things better in your life. It sure doesn’t sound helpful when you’re starting a big new project. It’s got to be pretty discouraging to hear when you’re ready for a brand new chapter in your life.

But it’s true. Change is hard.

But you already know that. I’m not telling you anything new. I’m just being like one of the guests at a get-together who says things that cause people to raise their eyebrows. Maybe it seems brazen. Some call it “brutally honest,” because other people realize it but aren’t inclined to say it. I consider it boldly honest, because it’s important to know the truth so you can handle it.

Most of us know that change is hard. But talking about it doesn’t make for a happy, upbeat conversation. In fact, marketers teach people in all sorts of personal and professional improvement fields never to talk about how hard the process is. They say focus on the outcome that people want. Problem is, if you hear how your life can be better but get a whitewashed view of what it takes to get there, you’re not being served. You’re being set up for frustration, discouragement, and despair.

Marketers also say it’s a really bad idea to use the word change when talking about personal or professional development. They tell us people don’t really like to change. They like to get better, and they like to improve, and they like to have more. But they don’t want to change.

That’s because change is hard.

If you want to improve some area of your life without changing, I have absolutely nothing that will help you. You’ll have to look elsewhere.

If you want to improve some area of your life without working at it, sometimes even working hard at it, I give you my best wishes and my blessing in your search for a different sort of answer. It’ll be one I’ve never found or heard of.

But if you want to empower yourself to improve an area of your life, start a big project to accomplish something important, or develop as a leader so you can bring your vision to life…

And if you’re willing to have your life change as a result of what you accomplish…

And if you’re willing to be changed by the whole process –

– changed by what you learn along the way

– changed by the challenges you face and overcome

– and changed because the goals require you to stretch yourself as you empower yourself to become the sort of person who is capable of taking charge and making something happen…

AND if you’re willing to work, and sometimes work hard to make your plans real…

Then I can offer you something that will help.

Change is difficult, but it’s definitely possible.

It requires you to get as clear as you can about what you want to have in your life, or what you want to make happen. It requires you to look at where you are and where you want to be, and then figure out the steps to get there. It requires you to be able to identify what resources you need and whose help you need, and then to find a way to bring them together. It requires patience sometimes, and tenacity sometimes, and motivation to keep you going when things get challenging and start bogging down.

Or when you get stuck.

Because you’re going to get stuck. Somewhere along the way, you’ll feel like giving up. Maybe you’ll have competing ideas and won’t know which one is better. Maybe you’ll have a plan but not know how to make part of it happen. Maybe you’ll know where to find the resources, and where to find the people to help, but you’ll doubt yourself.

Somewhere, at some point along the way with your plan to improve your life or make something really meaningful happen, you’re going to get stuck.

This prediction might sound like a real downer, but it’s actually good news. Those of us who help other people improve themselves and achieve important goals know that you’ll get stuck because we’ve seen it happen with every person we work with. Everyone who sets out to make a meaningful change gets stuck at some point.

We know the different ways people get stuck.

We know that you’ll get stuck. (We just don’t know which way for sure.)

And we know how to pry you loose.

So if you’ve started out with a plan to change something in your life, or to accomplish a big goal, or to take a great idea and make it real…

And you’re stuck…

Then I have a great gift for you.

In fact, if you haven’t gotten stuck yet, if you haven’t taken the first step because you’re still planning or thinking about your plans, this is still a great gift for you.

I want to give you my workshop in an e-book. It’s called

At the end, I’ll even take you through an exercise to pull it all together and apply it to your specific goals for improvement in your life.

There’s no cost. It’s my gift to you. Just sign up by putting your name and e-mail address in the form below and I’ll send you the e-book in your e-mail inbox. You’ll be able to read it online or download it to your computer or mobile device.
